Home Is Where Your Heart Is (How many hearts can you have again?)

I adapt quickly. I like to consider that one of my best features. I tried to explain that to my friend, but unfortunately I started with "I’m a really cool person" and then she couldn’t hear anything else. But I am! :) Haha, what I really wanted to tell her is exactly this: I adapt easily and I don’t make a fuss about where I live, and plus I tend to like it quickly as well.

I still remember the date I moved to Belgrade (another of my features, I remember dates, not because of the dates themselves, but I usually make a connection to something. The same goes here). It was September 27th 2007, the day after my 19th birthday. I think in not more than three days I felt as if I’d always lived there. As if I belonged there. That’s also the feeling I still have when I get to Belgrade, even after not living there for more than a year, and it sometimes scares me. Because it’s not the only place I belong to anymore, and I’m a bit scared of a moment where I would have to choose where to go and settle down. But as a book character would say – "I’ll think about that tomorrow."

When I travel to Belgrade from my hometown, I have to cross river Sava while approaching the city. For years crossing this bridge made me have butterflies in my stomach. I felt as if I was hugging the city with my eyes. I’ve always regretted not being able to hug a city. I think it’s a love equally important as love for humans.

Last time I went to Belgrade I had the chance to hug it with my eyes from above. The rivers, the bridges, the St Sava Temple, student dorm where I lived in. It felt like seeing an old friend.

It's complicated for me to make a Belgrade blog post. Because it's not so picture pretty, but it is pretty. And I am aware that some people don't even have that impression. For me it's the most beautiful and most lovable city in the world, but I cannot transfer that to photos. I cannot show the atmosphere, the people, the sun, the sounds of the streets, the smell in the public transport. OK - luckily for you I cannot show you the latest. :) But there is something nostalgic even about that. Or I'm just going nuts.

And another thing about making a Belgrade blog post: it's totally impossible because the social life interferes! When I was in Belgrade in December, I had such a tight schedule full of meetings with friends, and somehow I managed to insert two blank hours just to wander around and make photos. But in the first ten minutes I met a friend of mine whom I hadn't seen for ages, and who lived with another friend of mine, so she invited me over to their place. I couldn't have said no! So I tried to do the same in March, but I stayed with one of the friends much more than I was supposed to, so my photoshooting time was almost gone again. And then it was dusk, and it's not of much use to make pictures in the dusk if you don't have a professional camera, so...  I had to accept that the Belgrade post just cannot be like all the others. But to be honest, I wouldn't want it any other way. Belgrade equals friends. Belgrade equals good time, and a good laugh, and the world's best ice mocha at Coffee Dream (sorry, Starbucks!). Belgrade equals love. Belgrade equals home. I'm just gonna make some 10-minutes-Belgrade-posts whenever I come back from there. :)

Anyway, here are some photos I did make. It's of one of the loveliest places in the city - jazz café called Bašta (The Garden). I wasn't paid to say this, I just think it looks beautiful. :) It was opened two or three years ago I think, and soon enough it became an IT place. But I think it totally deserves it, don't you? The interior (or should I say exterior?) decoration was made by Mali Iv, owner of the supercute lifestyle blog Slurporama and cutensils - have a look, you'll enjoy her posts even if you don't understand Serbian because she makes beautiful photos.

Oh, and another thing that interferes with the plans of making posts: "Pedestrians, please cross the street here" sign on a bridge! So I couldn't have made a good one of the bridges on the Sava river. This was my best shot - I know it's awful, with this Grand Casino ad and the building on the right and no river at all, but you can see four bridges, and the photo is made standing on the fifth.

If anyone is interested in visiting Belgrade (I'd totally recommend it - excellent food checked, beautiful people checked, exciting nightlife checked), feel free to contact me and get some firsthand insights. Because it's a must see. Oh, I'm too emotional when it comes to Belgrade. What the heck :)

P.S. I spent my last two weekends in Belgium and Paris and those were the best weekends in I-don't-know-how-long, so stay tuned and make sure you like my Facebook page - thanks! :)
